Google Partners Ray-Ban And Oakley to design Google Glass

Google announced this week they will be teaming up with Luxottica, makers of designer eye glass frames like Ray-Ban and Oakley, to bring some style to Google Glass.

Google sees Glass as the “next chapter” in the storied history of eyewear: “Light, simple and modular, Glass introduces new functionality as your glasses get smarter – but bringing your own style to Glass is just as important.”

Google Glass has been criticized as looking too nerdy to go mainstream. Google-GlassTo combat this criticism, and to offer a better solution to those who wear prescription glasses, Google launched the Titanium Collection of Google Glass earlier this year. While Google intends to continue offering the Titanium collection, it appears Google wants to give their “Glass Explorers” even more options by putting frame design into the capable hand of Luxottica.

Luxottica understands how to build, distribute and sell great products that their clients and consumers love – something we care deeply about at Glass, too. They’ll bring design and manufacturing expertise to the mix, and, together, we’ll bring even more Glass style choices to our Explorers.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on a Lucottica-designed version of Google Glass, unfortunately there are no timelines set for when they may be released.

There are few details available at this point, but here’s an idea of what a more stylish version of Google Glass looks like compared to the original prototype:
